Belle Meade Plantation & The Birdie

On one of my most recent adventures in the lovely city of Nashville, TN I took a tour of the Belle Meade Plantation, and luckily for a day in February, it was bright and sunny. When I first saw photos of the mansion I was so excited because to me it looked like a mini Pemberley, what’s not to love? So, as I was getting ready that morning all I heard ringing through my ears was “Are the shades of Pemberley to be thus polluted?!” Yes, I am a huge Jane Austen  nerd.

Belle Meade Plantation is a gorgeous southern mansion which dates it’s start of construction all the way back in the 1820’s. Besides having a fascinating history, it also boasts beautiful grounds and a winery. To top it all off, you can take a guided tour of the mansion by a history buff dressed to the nines, complete with a corset and hoop skirt.  Alas, no photos allowed on the inside of the mansion, but if you’re ever in the area it is completely worth a stop, plus… Free wine samples!

Now, on to the Birdie Dress. This dress is gorgeous and great for an early spring day. I can’t believe I used to hate floral prints, now.. I am a little obsessed! When I first saw this dress on Pinup Girl Clothing, I fell in love with the colors, but was a little worried about having an occasion to wear it. My second thought was “Do I ever need a reason to dress up? No..”. 🙂 This dress is unique from my others because of the three quarter length sleeves and wide collar, the fabric is a rich heavy cotton with a structured bodice, and side zipper.

I paired my Birdie Dress with a pair of bright pink oxford inspired heels, and a pink cami in case the top decided to gape (it could have used a little alterations to the chest before this shoot, because I chose to size up). I kept the accessories simple because of the busyness of the dress pattern. One of my favorite features is the wide belt to help enhance a classic hourglass shape.
